Scoliosis and chiropractic: a natural approach

Scoliosis and chiropractic: a natural approach

Almost all of us have heard of scoliosis, or we know someone close who lives with it. But what is it really? When we talk about scoliosis, we mean that the vertebrae of the spine present an abnormal curvature in their alignment, which often takes the shape of an S or a C.

It usually appears during the growth period, when the adolescent’s body stretches and the vertebrae adapt to the physical changes. At this stage, certain habits —poor posture in front of the computer, prolonged use of the mobile phone or carrying the backpack badly— can influence the natural curvature of the spine.

How to detect it in time

Often it is the parents themselves who notice the first signs when observing their children’s spine:

  • Difficulty maintaining a correct posture.
  • Shoulders or hips at different heights.
  • One shoulder blade sticking out more than the other.
  • A visible curvature when bending forward.

At any suspicion, the first thing is to see a doctor, who will carry out an evaluation and confirm the diagnosis, usually by means of an X-ray of the spine.

How chiropractic supports

Chiropractic care is a non-invasive and non-aggressive option. We work with gentle spinal adjustments on the area involved, with the aim of favouring the mobility and a better posture of the spine, respecting the body’s own pace.

Chiropractic support can help to:

  • Favour a better posture of the spine.
  • Improve mobility.
  • Relieve the tension associated with poor posture.

It is an approach that is gentle with the body, in which the person is the protagonist of their own process, always complementary to medical follow-up.
